Obama’s Deafening Silence Rings Loud Warning over Deteriorating US-Israel Ties

President Obama has yet to call Prime Minister Netanyahu. His resounding silence is likely an indicator of where US-Israel relations are headed.

As of this writing, Obama has apparently chosen to ignore Netanyahu’s victory in Israel’s elections this week. While it is true that Netanyahu has not yet been given the task by President Reuven Rivlin to cobble together a coalition, and while it is also true that Obama took a few days before calling Netanyahu back in 2013 when he won those elections, other foreign leaders have made it a point to send a congratulatory message to Netanyahu immediately after his victory.

Several Israeli pundits, scholars and laymen are drumming up all sorts of ideas as to what this all means for Israel’s future relationship with the US, questioning whether or not Obama intends to “retaliate” against Israel at the UN or elsewhere on the world stage.

Meanwhile, in his first American-broadcast interview since winning this week’s elections, Netanyahu told NBC news that “America has no greater ally than Israel” and vice versa, and that he was “sure” that he and Obama would speak soon.
