A dangerous new wave of anti-Israel extremism has reached Bowdoin College.

Radical activists, led by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), have illegally occupied an administrative building in an attempt to pressure the school into adopting the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

This deliberate attack on campus order must not be tolerated!

These activists are violating Bowdoin’s policies, ignoring security directives, and threatening the safety and inclusivity of Jewish students. Yet instead of backing down, they are doubling down—boasting that Bowdoin “does not know how to handle us.”

This is not peaceful protest. This is an unlawful encampment aimed at strong-arming the administration into submission.

We’ve seen what happens when universities fail to act decisively. At the City University of New York (CUNY), the administration allowed a small group of anti-Israel radicals—the so-called “CUNY 8”—to dictate policy through harassment, intimidation, and lawlessness.

Faculty members openly endorsed Hamas, protests turned violent, and Jewish students were forced into hiding. CUNY’s reputation has been irreparably damaged, and it has become a national symbol of antisemitism and academic failure.

Bowdoin must not follow this path. The administration has promised disciplinary action—now they must follow through. If Bowdoin caves to the mob, it will send a message that rule-breaking and extremist intimidation will be rewarded.

We cannot stay silent. Bowdoin must enforce its own policies and ensure these students face consequences.

Subject: Urgent: Upholding Campus Policies & Ensuring Student Safety

Dear President Zaki and Bowdoin Leadership,

I am writing to strongly urge Bowdoin College to uphold its disciplinary policies and take firm action against the students who unlawfully occupied Smith Union. Allowing this behavior to go unchecked not only undermines campus safety but also sets a dangerous precedent that rule-breaking will be tolerated.

Furthermore, I am deeply concerned about the growing pressure to grant these students amnesty. The failure to enforce consequences in similar situations at other universities has led to increased campus instability and emboldened antisemitic harassment. Bowdoin must not allow itself to follow that path.

Please reaffirm your commitment to student safety and campus order by ensuring that disciplinary measures remain in place. Anything less risks damaging Bowdoin’s integrity and compromising its duty to provide a safe learning environment for all students.

Sincerely,
