Moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is “a big step towards regional peace,” Minister Naftali Bennett declared.

The Palestinians have threatened “three days of rage” if President Donald Trump decides to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The word from Washington, ahead of President Donald Trump’s speech Wednesday evening, is that the US will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and plans to start the process towards moving the embassy.

Jerusalem police forces have beefed up security, and US embassies around the world are on high alert. The State Department issued a travel alert to employees of the embassy in Tel Aviv and their families, instructing them to avoid visiting Judea, Samaria and the Old City of Jerusalem.

Despite any short-term developments that may occur, Israel’s minister of Education and Diaspora Affairs, speaking at the annual Jerusalem Post conference, says that “in the long term,” moving the embassy would promote regional peace.
