Doron Katz-Asher: “The emotional burden is heavy, and the financial fears are real.”

A woman who was held Hostage in Gaza with her two young daughters is looking forward to a brighter future after raising $600,000 in a single day.

Doron Katz-Asher, 36, was kidnapped with her children, ages four and six, from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023.

They were released as part of a hostage exchange deal in November 2023.

Seeking funds to sustain herself and her family after their harrowing ordeal, Katz-Asher sought to raise money online.

In an Instagram post, she wrote, “Today, I’m setting shame aside. I refuse to let my past captivity define me. I choose to heal and rebuild. But at this moment—at my most vulnerable—I realize I can’t do this alone.”

“The emotional burden is heavy, and the financial fears are real. I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d have to ask for help—but here I am.”

Less than 24 hours after the campaign began Thursday, Katz-Asher had raised $600,000, or 2.3 million shekels, just shy of her 2.5 million shekel goal.

The Israeli mother was left with few close family members since Hamas murdered her mother, Efrat, and brother, Ravid, during the attack.

Katz-Asher’s mother’s partner, Gadi Moses, 80, was freed during a temporary truce in January.

In the Instagram post, she described her captivity as “The heart of hell.”

She said that she had undergone rudimentary surgery to remove a bullet from a gunshot wound without anesthesia.

“I didn’t know if we would survive,” she says in the post.

She also related how, following her release, she had discovered she was pregnant with her third child after having separated from her husband, Yoni.

“I separated from my partner and found out that I would be giving birth by myself, without the mother who had always stood beside me,” she writes. “I may have been liberated from captivity, but have not reclaimed my previous life.”
