Anticipating an attack by Hezbollah in the north, the IDF has stepped security precautions, forbidding anyone from approaching near the border with Lebanon.
The IDF has instructed Israeli farmers with fields near the northern border to stay away, fearing a Hezbollah terror attack.
“There is an absolute ban on movement along the security fence,” the IDF announced on Wednesday, according to several Israeli news sites.
The ban is likely to remain in place over the coming days, Haaretz reports.
The IDF’s announcement follows its instruction to its own forces to maintain a low profile and wear extra protective gear when patrolling near the border out of fear of a response by the Lebanese-based Hezbollah terror organization to the assassination of Samir Kuntar, the notorious terrorist killed on Saturday, reportedly in an Israeli airstrike.
Security forces were ordered to be ready for a reprisal attack by Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has already retaliated through a proxy organization which fired three rockets on northern Israel on Sunday, but the IDF maintains that Hezbollah will retaliate in a more severe manner, albeit not in a full-blown confrontation, because Hezbollah is deeply involved in the Syrian civil war and cannot afford to open a new front against Israel.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed to revenge Kunter’s death in a televised address on Monday.
“I have no doubt that Israel is responsible for the assassination of Kuntar,” Nasrallah said. Hezbollah will respond to the assassination of “any member of the resistance in the way, time, and date it chooses.”
