The IDF and Shin Bet eliminated the commander of Hamas’s Khan Yunis Brigade in a precision strike in the southern Gaza Strip, the military announced Friday.
Muhammad Yazouri, who commanded the Khan Yunis Brigade of Hamas’s military wing, was killed Thursday night in the Khan Yunis area.
Yazouri had previously served in several senior positions within the brigade, including deputy brigade commander, commander of its combat support battalion and head of its intelligence department.
In his most recent role, he was responsible for directing the brigade’s terrorists and advancing attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians, according to the military.
The IDF said Yazouri had recently been working to advance dozens of attacks against Israeli forces while attempting to rebuild the Khan Younis Brigade after it sustained heavy losses during the war.
Two additional Hamas terrorists were eliminated in the same strike: Hudhaifa Maamar, a company commander, and Muhammad Bahjat Rachi, another member of the Khan Yunis Brigade.
The operation came one day after Israeli security forces announced the elimination of another veteran Hamas terrorist in an airstrike in Gaza.
Farah Hamed, a member of Hamas’s military wing who previously held a senior position in the terrorist group’s Judea and Samaria Headquarters, had been involved in directing attacks in Judea and Samaria for years.
According to the IDF and Shin Bet, Hamed was a longtime member of the Silwad terror cell and participated in several major attacks in the Binyamin region that killed and wounded Israelis.
He also took part in the October 2003 shooting attack near Ein Yabrud that killed three IDF soldiers, Sgt. Elad Pollack, Sgt. Roi Yaakov Solomon and Staff Sgt. Erez Idan.
Hamed was arrested but released to Gaza in 2011 as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange. Israeli authorities said he subsequently continued operating within Hamas’s military wing, recruiting and directing terrorists to carry out attacks in Judea and Samaria.
The IDF said troops under Southern Command remain deployed in Gaza in accordance with the agreement and will continue acting to eliminate immediate threats.
