An Israeli reservist was killed and seven other soldiers were wounded Wednesday in southern Lebanon after an explosive device detonated near a force operating in the Litani River area, highlighting the continued dangers facing Israeli troops despite the ceasefire framework in place with Hezbollah.
The IDF identified the fallen soldier as Master Sgt. (res.) Alexander Filin.
According to an initial military investigation, the incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. near the village of A-Taybeh, where a force from the command team of the deputy commander of the 36th Division and soldiers from the Givati Brigade were conducting operations on foot when an explosive device was detonated.
Filin was killed in the blast, while seven additional soldiers were wounded. Among the wounded were a combat officer and a reserve battalion commander, both listed in moderate condition, along with another reservist. Four additional soldiers, including a female reservist, sustained light injuries.
All of the wounded were evacuated to hospitals for treatment, and their families were notified.
The incident came just hours after five soldiers were wounded in a separate Hezbollah drone attack in southern Lebanon. According to the military, two explosive drones struck an operational force and a subsequent evacuation team in two consecutive attacks. One soldier was seriously wounded, while the others sustained moderate and light injuries.
The attacks are the latest in a series of Hezbollah violations of the ceasefire arrangement, which has also seen repeated rocket and drone launches toward northern Israel.
The incidents come as Israel continues to insist that its forces will remain in key security zones in southern Lebanon despite growing pressure and Iranian demands for a full Israeli withdrawal as part of the emerging U.S.-Iran agreement.
