“The American government has committed itself to muzzle its pets in Tel Aviv. If they ignore their master, Iran will discipline them.”

Iran on Wednesday warned Israel of a “strong and immediate” response after Defense Minister Israel Katz said Jerusalem would strike Iran again if necessary.

Speaking at Israel’s state memorial ceremony for the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Katz said the lessons of Oct. 7 require Israel to act before threats materialize.

“The events of Oct. 7 made one thing clear to all of us: We must never wait until the threat is knocking at our door,” Katz said. “We carried out two preemptive strikes against Iran, and if necessary, we will strike a third time.”

Katz also vowed that the IDF would remain in security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza “without time limits” to protect Israeli communities from jihadist threats.

His remarks followed comments on Monday in which he said the IDF is preparing for the possibility of another military confrontation with Iran.

“If we have definitive intelligence about Iranian decisions, we will act on it,” Katz said at the time. “If Iran attacks us with missiles, we will respond with force.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded on X, warning that any threat against Iran’s leadership or people would be met with force.

“The terms of the memorandum of understanding are clear and public for all to see,” Araghchi wrote. “The American government has committed itself to muzzle its pets in Tel Aviv. If they ignore their master, Iran will discipline them.”

“Any threat against our people and our leadership will receive an immediate and strong response,” he added.
