Israel’s Energy Ministry has launched a new public education initiative with the Weizmann Institute of Science’s Davidson Institute to promote renewable energy, energy conservation and sustainable energy use through a series of science-based videos aimed primarily at young people.
The ministry said the project is designed to make energy-related topics more accessible by using social media to explain scientific concepts through demonstrations and experiments.
The videos are presented by Avi Saig, head of the Davidson Institute, the educational arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science.
They combine scientific explanations with hands-on experiments to illustrate subjects including energy storage, renewable energy generation from solar radiation, water and other sources, as well as electric transportation, efficient construction and the economic and social effects of energy choices.
According to the ministry, the campaign is intended not only to increase public understanding but also to encourage practical changes in daily behavior that can reduce energy consumption and lower costs over time.
The educational content will eventually be incorporated into the ministry’s website, science curricula and lesson plans, as well as additional media platforms.
The initiative expands on an earlier educational campaign launched by the ministry, “Working Together on Energy,” which sought to increase awareness of the efficient use of energy and water among Israeli children and students.
That program was conducted online and through social media with the goal of making energy and water conservation a regular part of classroom instruction in schools and kindergartens across Israel.
Designed for students from kindergarten through ninth grade, the earlier program covered a broad range of topics related to energy and water while seeking to influence patterns of thinking and everyday behavior regarding energy consumption.
Teachers, parents and students were provided with online educational resources, including articles, presentations, videos, classroom assignments and practical tips through the program’s dedicated website.
The new partnership with the Davidson Institute continues the ministry’s effort to use digital educational tools to increase public understanding of energy issues and encourage more efficient energy use.
