Fighting terrorism on all fronts, thousands of Israelis have joined a class-action lawsuit demanding that the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation be tried at the International Criminal Court over incitement to murder Israelis.
The Israel Law Center has launched a campaign to collect signatures in order to file a criminal complaint at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague against the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) in wake of its incitement against Israel and Israelis, which is one of the driving forces behind the wave of almost daily Palestinian terrorist attacks which have plagued Israel for over six months.
The Tel Aviv-based Shurat HaDin-Israel Law Center, which represents terror victims, combats efforts to delegitimize Israel and fights for human rights, said the complaint is going to be filed against the heads of the corporation, Riad al-Hassan and Ahmed Assaf.
“In the recent wave of terror attacks many of the terrorists launched their attacks after they watched programming which called very clearly for the killing of Jews,” Shurat Hadin said in the statement.
The NGO pointed to findings by the Israeli security establishment that Palestinian youths who carried out attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians were encouraged by the Palestinian TV, which calls for killing Jews.
The campaign also appeals to the US government, which funds the Palestinian Authority’s broadcasts.
Attorney Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, founder and head of Shurat HaDin, said “the current wave of ‘lone wolf attacks’ is the product of televised propaganda.”
“When establishment television brainwashes its viewers to murder Jews, they go and carry out these deeds. Once we used to go and arrest inciters at mosques, now we just need to go arrest the heads of Palestinian broadcasting,” she said.
Head of the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate Nasir Abu Baker said in a press statement that Israel must worry about being tried and not the opposite, because the PA is determined to try Israeli forces for their alleged crimes against journalists and media institutions.
He said the PA has already filed a complaint to the ICC on the supposed violations against the PBC.
PBC’s spokesperson Majed Saed claimed there was Israeli “incitement” against the corporation.
“We take such incitement and moves very seriously, especially that Israel will not halt efforts targeting the corporation,” Saed stated
“The Palestine TV will continue to show the truth and we will not be deterred by such moves, whether through Israeli or international courts. We will hold Israel accountable for its crimes through the law and media.”
Shurat HaDin is also fighting a battle through a lawsuit in New York against Facebook because it is “disregarding incitement and calls to murder Jews being posted by Palestinians” on the social media network.
