Astronaut Jessica Meir sent Chanukah wishes to those celebrating back on earth.

By United with Israel Staff

NASA astronaut Jessica Meir sent well wishes from outer space to earthlings while wearing festive Chanukah socks on Sunday, the first day of the eight-day holiday.

She tweeted from the International Space Station, “Happy Chanukah to all those who celebrate it on Earth! #HappyChanukah,” with a dreidel emoji. Included was a picture of her legs in blue socks decorated with bright purple menorahs and neon green Stars of David facing outer space.

Meir, whose father is an Iraqi-Israeli and mother is Swedish, was born in Maine and was inspired to become an astronaut after watching space shuttle missions on television. According to Wikipedia, she credits her dream of participating in space exploration due to the love of nature she learned from her mother, her father’s adventurous spirit, and seeing the bright starts of Maine while growing up.

Meir entered the space station in September and is scheduled to spend more than six months on board.

She, along with astronaut Christina Koch, took the first all-female spacewalk in October. They were outside of the space station for seven hours.

Peace in Space

On December 13, Meir tweeted birthday wishes to Hazzaa AlMansoori, the first person from the United Arab Emirates to go to space. Included was a picture of the two astronauts hugging.

“Wishing the happiest of birthdays today to my spacefaring colleague @astro_hazzaa! He’s certainly had a memorable year as the very first astronaut from his homeland, the United Arab Emirates. We at @NASA are excited to see what @MBRSpaceCentre has in store for next year.”

May this be a symbol of not only peace in space but also of peace on earth for all.
