The PA still denies Israel’s right to exist, claiming all of Israel’s land to itself. This approach leaves very little room for negotiations. 

The Palestinian Authority (PA) and its Fatah faction continue to deny Israel’s right to exist, doing so habitually by presenting Israeli cities as “Palestinian,” Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports.

Recently, Fatah Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi emphasized on Lebanese TV that “Haifa, Jaffa, Acre and Nazareth are Palestinian,” and this “despite” the opinions of “the Americans and the Israelis.”

“Don’t you dare think there is even a single Palestinian, whether he supports the two-state solution or another path, who would agree to these settlements being part of Israel, and that Haifa, Jaffa and Acre are not Palestinian. No. Haifa, Jaffa, Acre and Nazareth are Palestinian, despite the Americans and the Israelis,” PMW quotes him as saying.

Palestinian leaders make these kinds of statements on a regular basis. Earlier this year, PMW reported that Tirawi called for the “driving out the occupier from the entire pure land, from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea” on his Facebook page.

Israel Denial in Song

Tirawi’s latest statement is almost identical to the message of a song frequently broadcast by official PA TV, which presents as “Palestinian” and “ours” the Israeli cities, towns and regions of Jaffa, Acre, Haifa, Nazareth, the Galilee, the Golan Heights, Lod, Ramle, Jerusalem, Safed, Tiberias and Ashkelon:

Jaffa, Acre, Haifa, and Nazareth are ours.
[I] Muhammad sing about the Galilee and the Golan (Heights).
Jaffa, Acre, Haifa and Nazareth are ours.
[I] Kabha sing about the Galilee and the Golan (Heights).
From Bethlehem to Jenin is Palestinian,
Ramle, Lod and Sakhnin are Palestinian.
Nowhere is more beautiful than Jerusalem;
no matter how much we travel
From Safed to Al-Badhan (near Nablus) is Palestinian;
Tiberias and Ashkelon are Palestinian.

Earlier this year, Tirawi called for the destruction of Israel through violence: “We in this movement have not cast down the rifle and have not let go of the rifle. The rifle is here! The method of struggle we are adopting now [i.e., negotiations] is [only] one of the methods of struggle. But the rifle is here, and it can burst forth at any moment, with a new method and a new leadership. It will burst forth from this [current] leadership if we remain alive, because we are its people; and if we are no longer alive, [then] our sons, our young lions and you will be its people. Revolution until victory, until victory, until victory.”

Such statements leave very little leeway for any kind of peace negotiations or agreements.
