Next week at the United Nations, the Israeli government will present a comprehensive review of its efforts to address global challenges relating to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, and justice.
Israel’s work is part of its participation in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which were established in 2015. The target date for achieving full implementation of the goals is 2030.
Israel will present its progress in formulating and promoting the 2015 goals as one of the few countries to submit a national review this year.
The event will “showcase Israel’s revolutionary patents to the international community, promoting cooperative opportunities between Israeli industry and countries around the world,” announced the Israeli Mission to the UN.
Israeli actress Noa Tishby will moderate and several innovative Israeli companies will participate in the event, including NUFiltration, which developed a unique technology to filter and sanitize water without the use of chemicals at an affordable cost.
Other participants include SupPlant, which developed an artificial intelligence system to dramatically reduce agricultural water usage, Social Finance Israel (SFI), a non-profit that facilitates funding for various causes in Israel, and MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, whose programs aid developing countries.
Israel’s presentation will occur at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), which is the UN’s second largest gathering in size and scope, with the largest being the General Assembly held in September. HLPF is a week-long event attended by heads of state, presidents and ministers from around the world.
Senior representatives from Russia, Mexico, and Thailand will be present, among others. In addition, Lebanon will send its deputy prime minister.
“Israel is the nation of innovation and development, and is meeting the UN goals,” said Israel’s ambassador to the UN Danny Danon in an official statement. “The United Nations recognizes this fact, and the international community is greatly interested in the Israeli innovation that makes the world a better and more advanced place.”
