Members of Knesset (MK) on Tuesday marked Israel’s Animal Rights Day with a vegan meal that was served at the Knesset members’ cafeteria.
This is the fourth consecutive year that this unique event is taking place.
The meal was prepared by Chef Ori Shavit and Chef Avichai Gelber, the chefs of the company that operates the Knesset’s cafeterias.
The meal was attended by MKs from across the political spectrum, including Tamar Zandberg of the extreme-left Meretz party, Nurit Koren of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, Yael Cohen Paran of Zionist Camp, and Ahmad Tibi of the Joint Arab List, as well as by Knesset Director-General Albert Sakharovich.
The dishes included Maqluba with rice and soy, patties in tomato sauce, and vegan fish-less chraime.
Zandberg, who initiated the event, said, “The chefs have shown us once again that food can be prepared from natural ingredients only and that we can eat tasty, colorful, cheap and healthy meals which do not require the suffering of animals.”
