Shoppers at Tel Aviv’s Carmel market fled in panic Friday afternoon when a man ran through the narrow, crowded pathways while brandishing a knife.
Police arrested a knife-wielding man who sent shoppers at the popular Tel Aviv shuk fleeing in panic. There were no serious injuries. Several people were treated for shock; some others were lightly bruised while bumping into stalls and other pedestrians while attempting to flee.
Authorities suspect the man had been suffering from mental illness, Israel Radio reported.
During the recent wave of Palestinian terror that began about 10 months ago, stabbings have been the most common form of attack.
Tel Aviv suffered two major shooting attacks over the year. In January, an Arab Israeli from the North shot two Israelis to death and wounded seven more at a cafe on Dizengoff Avenue, one of the city’s liveliest streets; in June, two Palestinian terrorists from the Hebron area stormed a restaurant in the trendy Sarona Market, murdering four and injuring 17.
