Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the phone Tuesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They discussed regional issues and aim to continue cooperation on a number of levels.

According to a statement by Netanyahu’s office, the two leaders discussed Netanyahu’s recent visit to Moscow earlier this month, as well as “issues related to cooperation between Israel and Russia.”

The two also discussed “issues related to states in the region and the Palestinian Authority,” the statement said.

The Kremlin’s press service stated the two discussed the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and a wide range of international issues, including Syria, adding that Putin and Netanyahu agreed to continue personal contacts.

The dialogue between Israel and Russia has recently warmed significantly, and especially after Russia intervened in the Syria civil war and sent forces to fight on Basher al-Assad’s side.

The two leaders have met in Moscow several times, and the countries’ militaries are in touch regarding operations in Syria.
