The first permanent October 7th Memorial has been established in Sderot, a city that was devastated during the Hamas invasion.
The center is part of the “Survived to Tell” project, launched by the Israel-is advocacy organization and the Sderot municipality.
The purpose of the project is to memorialize the testimony of survivors and the history of the tragic day.

Narrative, video, and photographs create a complete picture of the tragedy of October 7th.
Documentary filmmaker Stephen D. Smith, who has filmed the testimony of numerous Holocaust survivors, lends his skill to the “Survived to Tell” project.
On October 7th, the fighting in Sderot centered around three main areas: the police station, the area near the Mall 7 shopping center, and the Ahuza neighborhood. Hamas terrorists opened fire on civilians as they moved toward these locations.
In the early hours of the attack, local police led the defense, supported by the city’s 22-member security team, who were armed only with pistols. As the situation escalated, large numbers of IDF reinforcements arrived.
In total, 53 people lost their lives — 37 civilians, 11 police officers, two firefighters, an IDF soldier, and an additional two IDF soldiers who were killed by rocket fire in the following days.
