EVENT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! MUCH MORE HELP WAS GIVEN IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS THROUGH UWI.

United with Israel ran a very special event on Sunday April 28, 2013, coinciding with the holiday of Lag B’Omer. The previous November, over 1500 rockets were fired from Gaza into southern Israeli communities. With the help of supporters around the world, UWI has taken concrete steps to support and strengthen the residents of southern Israel. We were able to Support Israel’s South by installing bomb shelters and planting fruit trees in southern Israel.

Two bomb shelters were installed for kindergartens in the Be’er Miriam pre-school, located in the city of Netivot. Although cities as far as Jerusalem and Tel Aviv were under attack, the bulk of the missiles were fired upon smaller towns close to the border with Gaza. Netivot was hit particularly hard, with many families choosing to flee rather than subject their children and themselves to living in fear and terror.

The Netivot kindergartens are currently being housed in caravans, not permanent classrooms. Since these temporary caravans are unprotected, the children are in extreme danger during rocket attacks. With less than 30 seconds to run for cover, above-ground bomb shelters will be installed adjacent to the classroom caravans in order to provide the young children and their teachers with both safety and piece of mind.

As 1500 terrorist rockets from Gaza landed in Israel during the war with Hamas this past November, United with Israel has committed to planting 1500 fruit trees in southern Israel. We believe that a meaningful response to terror and death is beauty and life. “Let’s turn destruction into something positive by making the scarred land green and fertile“, was an idea that really hit home.

Our Fruit Tree Planting Campaign has been very successful, with people from all over the world helping to make the Land of Israel more fruitful and green! With hundreds of partners who have planted anywhere from 1 to 100 trees, we are happy to announce that we are just 100 trees away from our goal of 1500 – an amazing feat that we are proud of, thanks to you!

On Sunday April 28, we will visit the southern community of Tifrach to plant an orchard of fruit trees. In Israel, spring is the best time to plant. We are honored to take part in the very special “mitzvah” (good deed) of beautifying the Land and making it fruitful!
We would love for you to join us (more info below)…
