Deif had been targeted in an Israeli strike two weeks ago, but his death had not been confirmed with absolute certainty.

Jack Lew, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, said in a briefing there are 'indications' that Mohammed Deif is dead. 

On Oct. 7, Deif called on Arabs and Muslims across the Middle East to 'set the Earth on fire under the feet of the occupiers [Israel].'
