Wednesday’s ceremony was launched ahead of the first anniversary of the attack as an alternative to the official state event after many bereaved and hostage families said they would shun it.
Israel held its national ceremony for October 7 families, featuring Eli Sharabi, as bereaved relatives, survivors, and the nation gathered to mourn the victims and honor the memory of those lost.
Three years later, as 6:29 a.m. approached, Israelis in Tel Aviv blared horns and dyed a fountain red in memory of the 1,200 victims of the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre.
Originally named Museum Square, the site became home to massive rallies calling for the release of all hostages held in Gaza following the Oct. 7 massacre and has now officially adopted the name Hostages Square.
