The Vera, a 39-key boutique hotel in a restored Bauhaus building on Lilienblum Street, has become Tel Aviv’s first boutique hotel to banish single-use plastic entirely.

Opened in 2018, The Vera announced that it is enhancing its sustainability policies by eliminating items such as disposable soap and shampoo bottles, to be replaced by toiletry dispensers.

Water-filter systems were installed in each room to avoid the use of single-use plastic water bottles, while disposable coffee cups and lids are made of biodegradable material.

All trash bags in the hotel are produced with upcycled beans and are themselves biodegradable.

“The elimination of single-use plastics is an obvious decision and a forward step for the hotel industry,” says Danny Tamari, CEO and founder of The Vera.

“We continually strive to build an environmentally-conscious society, and The Vera’s action reflects our vision of what a modern hospitality experience should be.”

He pointed out that the hotel purchases only locally sourced organic bath products and installed a high energy-efficiency insulation system that keeps the hotel warm in the winter and cold in the summer, thus reducing the need for of heating and air conditioning.
