On Monday, the Tower of David Jerusalem Museum hosted the first-ever Jerusalem Quiz in honor of Jerusalem Day, marking the 58th anniversary of the reunification of the city in the Six Day War.

Middle school students representing 33 schools, both secular and religious, from across the city faced off in a competition of Jerusalem knowledge.

The quiz was won by Eliran Spadja, an 8th grader at Gilo School. Second place went to Noam Amar, a 9th grader at the Masorti School, while Uri Drefus, a 7th grader at Ulpanat Uri, came in third.

From landmarks and legends to music and architecture, from ancient times to modern day, students showcased their broad knowledge about Jerusalem, impressing the management at the museum.

“It is quite remarkable what you now know,” Tower of David Jerusalem Museum director Eilat Lieber told the students, adding, “You should know that you’ll always be able to find a job here as a guide!”

The quiz was initiated by the director of the Education Center at the Museum, Rabbi Yotam Halperin, who worked together with the director of the Jerusalem Education System, Arik Wurtzburger, to bring study material on Jerusalem to the students.

Through fun, engaging study kits packed with detailed information as well as songs and videos and a tour to the new permanent exhibition of the museum, students were able to dive into Jerusalem’s 4,000-year history, recalling pivotal moments but also small details in the city’s unique story.

After greetings from Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, the museum’s management pledged that this would be an annual tradition, with the hope that in future years it would build up to the stature of the prestigious International Bible Contest held annually on Israel’s Independence Day.
