Two soldiers were wounded on Tuesday morning after being stabbed by a terrorist near an army base in Tzrifin in central Israel, Channel 12 reported.

Civilians at the scene managed to subdue the terrorist until police arrived.

After an initial investigation, the terrorist is not assumed to have had any accomplices who escaped the scene.

The condition of one of the soldiers was at first defined as serious, and he was sedated and placed on a respirator. Later, his condition improved, and he is now considered moderately wounded. The second soldier was lightly wounded.

Both victims were evacuated to the hospital.

The terrorist, identified as a 21-year-old resident of Hebron, possessed a work permit restricted to the city of Ma’ale Adumim, near Jerusalem. Security forces are continuing to investigate how the terrorist managed to get to the center of the country.

Benny Meshulam, a volunteer with the United Hatzalah emergency response group, told Kan News, “I was driving the car and saw the terrorist, moving his hand and a knife. I immediately stopped the vehicle, ran to the terrorist, punched and kicked him and neutralized him.”

“After civilians tied him to the floor I ran to treat the [wounded] and saw that they had penetrating injuries. I did what every citizen should do. This is my civic duty.”

According to Channel 12, the security system emphasizes that the holiday period is “sensitive,” and forces maintain a high level of alertness against the infiltration of illegal residents, even as terror attacks continue to be thwarted on a daily basis.
