Ukraine’s Israel envoy said his country will open a branch of its embassy in Jerusalem in the coming year.

Speaking Thursday evening at the Kyiv Jewish Forum, an online event marking three decades of Israel-Ukraine ties, Yevgen Korniychuk, Ukraine’s ambassador to Israel, referred to Jerusalem as Israel’s “one and only capital.”

In attendance were, among other dignitaries, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and several Ukrainian and Israeli government ministers and world Jewish leaders.

Jerusalem Affairs Minister Ze’ev Elkin, who hails from Ukraine, expressed his hope that the eastern European country would open an embassy branch in the Israeli capital. He made his remarks and gave Korniychuk a 2,700-year-old artifact bearing the word “Jerusalem” in Hebrew immediately before Korniychuk spoke.

The embassy’s Jerusalem branch will be responsible for promoting bilateral trade and technological ties.
