In this week’s Torah portion outside of Israel, “Balak” (Numbers 22:2-25:9), God sets up a more than improbable set of circumstances for the purposes of rewarding Pinchas with the Priestood.

While this role as reserved for those born as a Kohanim, Pinchas performed such a courageous act that God rewarded him with being a Kohen.
