“We make a promise here in Sharaka that we will combat anti-Semitism, raise awareness, and tell them the Holocaust was real,” said a co-founder of Sharaka UAE.

‘Sharaka” is Arabic for partnership. The Sharaka’ Project involves a group of influencers in the UAE and Bahrain who visited Israel recently in order to promote communication among young people in the Arab Gulf states and the Jewish State, following the signing of the Abraham Accords in Washington.

On Monday, two days ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a joint session of these young leaders held a Holocaust remembrance ceremony and heard testimony from a survivor. Many were moved to tears.

Amit Dery, a co-founder of Sharaka Israel, and Dr. Majid Al Sarrah, a co-founder of Sharaka UAE, discussed the initiative with i24 News. The Holocaust remembrance event is a very important step towards learning each other’s stories, Dery said.
