With a new unity government formed, Israel can advance plans to extend sovereignty over Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.
Starting on July 1, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could ask the government to annex Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, the biblical heartland of the Jewish People, over which the modern State of Israel gained control when Jordan attacked Israel in 1967.
Israel’s sovereignty plan largely recognizes reality on the ground as it currently exists in Judea and Samaria, where hundreds of thousands of Israeli Jews live. Arab towns in Judea and Samaria will continue to be governed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) under Israel’s plan.
Predictably, PA leaders trotted out doom-and-gloom predictions, threatening Israel that they will end the “peace process” completely if Israel proceeds with its plans for sovereignty.
