Silent Film

The discovery of a film made in the 1920’s depicting a city that expels all of its Jews has astonished viewers with its uncanny predictions.

“The City Without Jews,” a silent film made in 1924, was recently discovered in a Paris flea market and has been digitally restored by Austria’s National Film Archive.

The film brings to life the best selling novel by Hugo Bettauer about a fictional political leader of Vienna, Austria who expels the Jews of the city as its citizens cheer.

Only one year later in 1925, Hugo Bettauer was shot and killed by a Nazi supporter. His message is as relevant today as it ever was!
