This book of proverbs shows the wisdom gathered across the centuries by Sephardic Jewry since the expulsion from Spain in 1492.

Ladino, or Judaeo-Spanish, was the language spoken by Sephardi Jews across the lands of the Ottoman Empire after the expulsion from Spain in 1492.

Ashkenazi Jews, who hail from Germany and spread mainly across eastern Europe, spoke Yiddish, a combination of Hebrew and Germany.

Today, over six million Jews – Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrahi, the latter descending from Middle Eastern Jewish communities that remained in the region since biblical times – have returned to Israel, the ancient Jewish homeland, where the diverse cultures are celebrated.
