Iranian officials are warning that the Iron Dome could not protect the Israel from an Iranian attack by the Islamic Republic.
Islamist cleric Mujtaba D’oh A-Nur is using what seems to be a new scare tactic, claiming that the defense system will be ineffective when the time comes for Israel to defend itself, Israel National News reported.
“The system will not affect Iran in any way – either defensively or offensively, he said,” according to INN.
Islamist Warns ‘Illegal Zionist regime’ Not to Rely on Iron Dome
“The illegal Zionist regime located in the heart of Muslim rule does not have faith in its security,” said A-Nur, INN reported. “That is why it runs to the United States for defense and develops the
Iron Dome and other defenses against missiles.”
Contrary to Israeli success stories with the elite defense system, the Iranian cleric alleged that it was ineffective, pointing to the 2006 war with Lebanon-based Hezbollah terrorists – which took place before the system had been developed! – and the 2012 Pillar of Defense conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
“The Iron Dome air defense system represents the latest technology used by the IDF to protect the people of Israel against the ongoing threat of short-range rockets and missiles,” explains the IDF blog.
“In November 2012,” the blog continues, “the Hamas terrorist organization fired hundreds of missiles from Gaza at southern and central Israel. The Iron Dome earned its reputation as a remarkably efficient and effective life-saving defense system by intercepting the vast majority of rockets in danger of striking populated areas.”
According to A-Nur, however, the system “will not protect them from Iran’s ballistic missiles. If the Zionist regime intends to attack Iran, the Iranian missiles will be fired at them and the Iron Dome will be useless.”
On Tuesday morning, Eilat residents awoke to the sound of the Iron Dome responding to a false alarm. This, Israeli daily Ha’aretz reports, prompted a comment by Gen. Ramezan Sharif, head of public relations for the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, to Iranian news agency Fars, saying that the defense system “is not only unable to provide security for the [Israeli] occupiers, but the system itself poses a serious threat to the Zionists.”
American investigative reporter Mark Thompson, INN adds, wrote that the “lack of Israeli casualties” in the war with Hamas in comparison to the barrage of missiles fired at southern Israel demonstrates that it “is the most-effective, most-tested missile shield the world has ever seen.”
