Terrorists Attack Israel from Egyptian Side of Border

An IDF patrol came under fire by terrorists attacking from Egypt. Two Israeli soldiers were wounded in the surprise attack against Israeli forces.

Two IDF soldiers were shot and wounded on Wednesday afternoon while patrolling the Israeli-Egyptian border in southern Israel. Terrorists opened fire on the patrol, shooting an anti-tank rocket at the vehicle that the soldiers were riding.

The soldiers were treated at the scene and then evacuated by helicopter to a hospital.

Large forces were dispatched to the area, and civilian traffic was stopped for fear of further developments. An attempted infiltration by the terrorists was ruled out.

The mountainous southern border with Egypt is closely guarded with a high security fence and advanced security measures and observation equipment, as it serves to safeguard from terrorists as well as to prevent the smuggling of drugs and weapons from the Sinai into Israel.
