Polish lawmakers are passing a bill banning claims that Poland was in any way responsible for the Holocaust.
Under this law, referring to Nazi concentration camps in Poland, such as Auschwitz and Treblinka, as “Polish death camps” would be punishable by imprisonment.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was extremely critical of the Polish bill, announced, “I strongly oppose it. One cannot change history and the Holocaust cannot be denied.”
The Polish Institute of National Remembrance claims the bill is necessary to protect the country’s reputation as a victim of the Nazi occupation and not an oppressor, despite the multitude of stories of Polish collaboration.
