The Times again tried to tarnish Israel’s image with an article based on the lies spun by a terror organization. While the article was debunked, the paper has yet to apologize!

The prominent New York Times newspaper has been roundly and repeatedly criticized for its anti-Israel bias, but despite that, continues to vilify the Jewish state and diverge from journalistic ethical standards.

Most recently, it accused the IDF of causing the death of an eight-month-old Palestinian baby, but when the facts proved otherwise, the Times neglected to issue a correction, an apology, or even a follow-up story with correct details.

On May 14, Layla Ghandour died in a Gaza hospital, allegedly from “tear-gas inhalation,” after being taken by her 12-year-old uncle to the border fence to join her mother at the site of the protests. (Why was a baby taken by a young boy to a war zone?)

The Times reported that Ghandour, “an 8-month-old girl with sparkling green eyes, was in the arms of her grandmother when a cloud of tear gas engulfed them at the protest,” from which she later died.

The infant instantly became a “symbol of Gaza,” while the Times’ Declan Walsh wrote a heart-wrenching piece about her tragic death and Israel’s culpability. Reports of her death and funeral, at which her body, wrapped in a Palestinian flag, was paraded around Gaza City, spread across the media and sparked global criticism.

Two days later, however, the spokesman for the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, who initially claimed that baby Layla had died of tear-gas inhalation, acknowledged that the cause of her death had yet to be determined.

When a doctor in Gaza announced that a congenital heart defect was likely the cause of her death, the Gaza health ministry removed her name from the list of those killed in clashes with Israel, pending an autopsy. It has failed, so far, to release the findings of the autopsy.

Another and final piece has been added to the puzzle, exposing the lie in its entirety.

Mahmoud Omar, 20, a member of the Fatah-affiliated Harakat al Mujahideen and Layla’s uncle, was indicted in June in Israeli court for a long list of terror-related offenses.

He revealed during his interrogation that on May 14, as thousands of Palestinians rioted along the border, his mother had called him to say that his cousin Layla had died.

Omar acknowledged during the investigation that the baby died from the same blood-related disorder that killed her brother Salim in 2017, but his aunt Myriam and uncle Anwar told news outlets that Layla had died as a result of inhaling tear gas during the riots along the border. The couple was paid NIS 8,000 by Hamas leader Yehiya Sinwar to lie to the media.

There is no question that this entire story was concocted by the Hamas terror organization and served up as truth by the Times.

While the Times did concede in its report that doubts about the narrative existed, it brushed them aside.

The Times again tarnished Israel’s image and based its vilifying piece on lies spun by a terror organization. When it was proven wrong, the paper fell silent about the matter.

Shame on the New York Times! We must let them know that this is unacceptable! Demand the Times apologize!
