National Students for Justice in Palestine releases manifesto calling for the nationwide abolition of Hillel, which provides gathering spaces for Jewish students.

Hillel International has become the latest target in a sweeping campaign by National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP).

In a manifesto released this week, #DropHillel accused Hillel of being a “pipeline for pro-Israel indoctrination” and called for the abolition of its campus chapters nationwide.

“Over the past several decades, Hillel has monopolized Jewish campus life into a pipeline for pro-Israel indoctrination, genocide-apologia, and material support to the Zionist project and its crimes,” the SJP statement reads. “Across the country, Hillel chapters have invited Israeli soldiers to their campuses; promoted propaganda trips such as birthright; and organized charity drives for the Israeli military.”

Founded in 1923 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Hillel International has grown to serve more than 850 colleges and universities globally. The organization maintains centers on campuses that serve as gathering spaces where Jewish students can study, socialize, and participate in religious services. These facilities often include kosher dining options, prayer spaces, and meeting rooms for student groups.

The #DropHillel movement has already found support at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During an October 9 rally, SJP members reportedly called for “no more Hillel” alongside demands to remove Israel from UNC’s study abroad program and implement boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) measures.

In subsequent statements to The Daily Tar Heel, the university’s student newspaper, SJP compared Hillel to extremist groups, declaring that “any group that advocates for a supremacist ideology — be it the KKK, the Proud Boys, Hillel, or Heels for Israel — should not be welcome on campus.”

Since Hamas launched its unprovoked massacres against Israel on October 7, 2023, there has been a sweeping fervor of anti-Israel activity on college campuses. A recent Anti-Defamation League (ADL) report reveals that ten Ivy League schools accounted for 16% of all documented antisemitic incidents, with Columbia University and the University of Michigan leading at 52 and 38 incidents respectively.
