Tucker Carlson has argued that the United States shares more common values with Qatar than with Israel, citing what he described as cultural differences and urging a foreign policy centered on American interests rather than traditional alliances.
Speaking in recent remarks, the former Fox News host contrasted Qatar with Tel Aviv, describing the Gulf state as “quite a socially conservative society” while calling Tel Aviv “the world capital for drag queen story hours.” Carlson said Qatar’s values are closer to those held by many supporters of President Donald Trump and presented that view as consistent with an “America First” approach.
Carlson has repeatedly questioned the benefits of the U.S.-Israel relationship, arguing that Washington should not allow its foreign policy to be shaped by a smaller ally. He has instead pointed to Qatar as a partner that offers more tangible strategic advantages, highlighting its role as host to a major U.S. military base while criticizing Israeli policies.
The comments reflect Carlson’s broader criticism of Israel, which has become a recurring theme on his podcast. He has frequently urged Americans to reconsider their support for Israel and has promoted arguments that critics have described as antisemitic conspiracy theories and rhetoric.
Carlson has also faced accusations that he received funding from Qatar. He has denied those allegations, despite maintaining a high-profile relationship with Qatari officials, including conducting an interview with Qatar’s prime minister at the Doha Forum.
A frequent critic of Israel, Carlson has drawn repeated accusations of antisemitism over his statements about the Jewish state and its influence on U.S. policy.
His latest remarks add to his long-running argument that the United States should base its relationships on what he views as shared values and direct national interests rather than longstanding alliances, placing Qatar ahead of Israel as a preferred partner under that approach.
