Trump-Iran

“These maniacs are on the ropes,” Trump wrote, arguing that the new measures would cripple Iran’s ability to finance and project terrorism abroad.

President Donald Trump announced what he called the “most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country” Wednesday night, vowing to isolate Iran from the global economy and punish countries that continue providing Tehran with financial or commercial lifelines.

Trump said Iran had squandered repeated opportunities to reach an agreement with Washington and would now face economic pressure on an unprecedented scale.

“No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to make a Deal than me,” Trump wrote. “TRAGICALLY, for them, they have failed to take it.”

Trump declared that the United States would target not only Iran but also countries that allow their financial institutions, businesses, airports or government entities to help Tehran evade the economic campaign.

“Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies — It all needs to stop NOW,” he said.

Calling the campaign an “ECONOMIC D-DAY,” Trump urged U.S. allies to join Washington in isolating Iran and warned of “tremendous economic consequences” for countries that provide Tehran with a lifeline.

The president portrayed Iran as severely weakened following the recent conflict, saying its naval and air capabilities had been devastated, military production facilities destroyed and currency battered.

“These maniacs are on the ropes,” Trump said, arguing that the new measures would cripple Iran’s ability to finance and project terrorism abroad.

“IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON,” he added.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded Thursday morning, dismissing Trump’s announcement and accusing Washington of engaging in “economic terrorism.”

“The so-called ‘Economic D-Day’ is a diversion from America’s own crisis: unprecedented debt & surging interest costs,” Araghchi wrote.

“Doubling down on failed policies will only bring further defeat — and enmity of Iranians,” he added, claiming the U.S. campaign threatened the global economy and the sovereignty of other countries.

The escalating economic confrontation comes as Iran faces growing pressure from elsewhere in the region.

The United Arab Emirates on Thursday suspended trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran after accusing Tehran of firing ballistic missiles toward maritime traffic.

The move could deliver a significant blow to Tehran. According to World Trade Organization data, the UAE supplied approximately 31% of Iran’s imports in 2024, worth roughly $21 billion, and received about 13% of Iranian exports.

The UAE has served as one of Iran’s most important commercial and financial links to the outside world, making the suspension particularly significant as Washington seeks to choke off networks that allow Tehran to move money and conduct international trade.

Trump’s announcement signals that the administration intends to expand that pressure beyond Iran itself, forcing governments and businesses to choose between maintaining economic ties with Tehran and risking consequences from the United States.
