On Jerusalem Day, commemorating the 47th anniversary of the liberation of the Holy City by the State of Israel, Jews were prevented from ascending their holiest site due to Arab rioting.
On Jerusalem Day on Wednesday morning, the Temple Mount was shut down due to security threats as Muslim Arab rioters violently protested against Jewish visitors to their holiest site.
Yishai Fleisher, Israeli activist and radio show host, was among a group that ascended the Mount early that day, led by Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute.
Describing the “harassment and intimidation,” Fleisher told United with Israel.
“There is so much accusation against Israel of being an apartheid state, but the truth is that the racism and apartheid are against Israelis.”
Jews Determined to Win Rights on Temple Mount
“On Jerusalem Day, which proclaims Israeli sovereignty in the Old City, this is a glaring irony,” Fleisher said. “On the other side, there is so much more awareness of this issue in the Israeli public.
Hundreds of Jews wanted to ascend the Temple Mount. More and more politicians and lay people are talking about it and understanding the need to assert our rights.”
According to Fleisher, the “Jihadists are panicking, but their intimidation tactics will not dissuade us. We will gain these rights that we deserve.”
Linda Olmert, deputy director of the Haliba movement for Jewish freedom on the Temple Mount, said that despite the disappointment on Jerusalem Day at not being able to take groups to the sacred site, “what was very encouraging was the unbelievable awakening of Jews from all denominations of the importance of the Temple Mount. This was clear in the number of people waiting in line to ascend and the definite feeling that while we were locked out because of Muslim rioting, the winds of change are blowing. Haliba is certain that we are about to change this intolerable situation.”
