ISIS Shoots Down Jordanian Plane and Captures Pilot

In what can be considered a frightening victory for Radical Islam, ISIS terrorists downed a Jordanian aircraft on Wednesday and captured the pilot.

Jordan has confirmed that Islamic State (ISIS, IS) terrorists downed one of its planes over northern Syria and are holding the pilot hostage.

The Jordanian army issued a statement on state television confirming the capture, Reuters reports. “Jordan holds the group and its supporters responsible for the safety of the pilot and his life,” the statement read.

Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — all Arab countries — are part of the US-led international coalition fighting ISIS.

The downing of a plane flown by a coalition member is seen as a major success for the terrorists. Recent reports indicate that ISIS is in fact much stronger and much more dangerous than the West had realized.

The US has been on high alert due to warnings of a planned attack on American soil.

According to Reuters, the plane had crashed during a Jordanian air force “military mission against the hideouts of the terrorist group.”

Jordanian government spokesman Mohammad Al-Momani told satellite TV station Al Hadath that the jet fighter “was shot at from the ground by rocket missiles and was brought down,” Reuters reports, adding that “an attempt to rescue the pilot before he was captured failed.”

Islamic State social media groups have published photos of the capture, including the pilot’s military identification card. Close relatives of the pilot told Reuters that they were notified by the Jordanian air force about the capture and, having seen the images, verified his identity.

To date, there has been no statement by the U.S. Central Command.

The Intelligence and Terror Information Center (ITIC), an Israeli-based research group, stated earlier this month that the Obama Administration’s campaign against ISIS was weak.
