Jordan has stepped up retaliatory attacks against ISIS as the US-led coalition prepares for a major ground assault.

Retired US Marine General John Allen, special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization, has confirmed that the coalition forces are preparing a ground assault against ISIS in “the coming weeks.”

“When the Iraqi forces begin the ground campaign to take back Iraq, the coalition will provide major firepower associated with that,” he told Petra, Jordan’s official news agency, stressing that the Iraqis would lead the offensive. Allen talked about 12 divisions numbering thousands of soldiers who would enter the fray.

Speaking to ABC News on Monday, Allen warned of ISIS’ capabilities. ISIS is “better organized [than al-Qaeda]. It’s command and control is better.”

He said that ISIS’ decision to murder Jordanian pilot Lt. Moaz al-Kasaesbeh by burning him alive has backfired, making the coalition more determined than ever to destroy the terror group.

Asked whether ISIS was a threat to the US home front, Allen said, “We should take it very seriously.”

Jordan Determined to Destroy ISIS

In the meantime, Jordan is continuing to pound ISIS targets from the air.

Jordanian Air Force Chief Major General Mansour al-Jobour said on Sunday that the kingdom had launched 56 air raids since its initial retaliatory attack on Thursday.

“On the first day of the campaign to avenge our airman Moaz al-Kasaesbeh, 19 targets were destroyed, including training camps and equipment,” Jobour said, according to AFP.

He listed dozens of destroyed targets, including barracks, training camps, ammunition and fuel depots, and residential centers that were hit by the Jordanian strikes.

“So far, the campaign has destroyed 20 percent of the fighting capabilities of Daesh [ISIS in Arabic],” Jobour boasted, adding that more than 7,000 ISIS terrorists have been killed since Jordan began participating in coalition air strikes. “We are determined to wipe them off the face of the Earth,” he declared.

Eyewitnesses in Syria report that coalition forces have dropped leaflets over the city of al-Raqqa, ISIS’ capital, calling on all residents to leave in anticipation of further coalition airstrikes.

The Jordanians are reportedly preparing to launch a ground incursion as well.

ISIS reacted to the reports with rage, threatening that the continued attacks and a ground operation would cause an “earthquake and horrific scenes that the world has yet to experience.” ISIS threatened to execute hundreds of captured Iraqis and Syrians and to carry out terror attacks throughout the Arab and Western world.
