Three productions focusing on Israel or the war in Gaza have been nominated for the 2026 International Emmy Awards, including a British investigation based on testimony from IDF soldiers and reservists alleging misconduct by Israeli forces in Gaza.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. No Israeli production was included among this year’s nominees. The winners will be announced Nov. 23 in New York.
Breaking Ranks: Inside Israel’s War, produced by British production company Zandland for ITV, was nominated in the Current Affairs category.
The investigation features testimony from IDF soldiers and reservists who served in Gaza and aired in Britain in November last year. It is also available on YouTube.
According to The Guardian, the film includes allegations that Israeli troops shot civilians and used Palestinians as human shields.
ITV said the soldiers also described bombings they alleged were indiscriminate.
In a response published by The Guardian when the film aired, the IDF said it operates in accordance with its legal and moral obligations, prohibits the use of civilians as human shields and investigates allegations of misconduct.
Another production dealing with Israel, Louis Theroux: The Settlers, was nominated in the Documentary category. The film follows British filmmaker Louis Theroux as he meets Israeli settlers in Judea and Samaria.
Qatar’s Al Jazeera network also received a nomination in the News category for Missing in Gaza, which focuses on the search for missing people in the Gaza Strip.
The nominations were announced as the documentary NAZA, created by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shor, continues to draw controversy.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, received a 25-minute standing ovation and won the Special Jury Prize. It prompted strong reactions in Israel, where the state is preparing an official response intended for an international audience.
Israeli productions have previously been nominated for and won International Emmys. Bad Boy was nominated for Best Drama Series last year, while Tehran won in that category in 2021 and Nevsu won the Comedy award in 2018.
