Richard Pick nació en Alemania en 1921, conoció ahí a Lore Steiner y comenzaron una relación, pero la guerra también inició, y mientras Lore emigró hacia México, Richard se dirigió a los Estados Unidos.

En aquel país se ofreció como voluntario para el ejército y el destino lo llevó a desembarcar en Normandía, en una de las operaciones más importantes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
