En 1969, Golda Meir fue nombrada Primera Ministra de Israel, convirtiéndose en la cuarta líder del estado judío moderno.

Golda Meir nació en Kiev en 1898 en un momento en que los pogroms y la persecución formaban parte de la vida cotidiana judía en esa parte del mundo. 

Cuando Golda tenía ocho años, su familia emigró a Estados Unidos, donde se convirtió en miembro activo de Young Poale Zion, un movimiento sindical sionista. Le apasionaba cumplir su sueño de mudarse a la Tierra de Israel y hacer su parte para construir un estado judío.
