Is Hamas preparing another attack on Israel? Reports on Hamas’s military build-up continue to come in as Israel remains vigilant.

Hamas is continuously rebuilding its terror infrastructure, working to increase its army of terrorists and replenishing its stockpile of weapons and rockets in order to regain the military power it had lost during Operation Protective Edge. This is all in preparation for a future war with Israel.

Hamas has been testing its rockets over the past months and has set off the Israeli detection and alarm systems a few times. It appears that Hamas is stepping up its weapons trials, as it has fired four rockets in the past 24 hours.

An IDF spokesman announced Thursday that “the IDF’s Active Defense system has identified a rocket launch from the central Gaza Strip into the sea. Over the past 24 hours, Gaza terrorists have launched four rockets into sea. Indications suggest that Gaza terrorists are experimenting in order to increase rocket launching capabilities.”

There have been sporadic singular rocket launches from Gaza into Israel since the conclusion of Operation Protective Edge. The last incident occurred at the end of October and caused the shutting down of border crossings with Israel.

The IDF has reportedly eliminated most of Hamas’ missiles cache, cutting down its number of rockets by 70 percent, but has not been completely successful in eradicating Hamas’s launching and production capabilities.

In the past, Hamas had smuggled weapons and rockets through its network of tunnels coming in from the Sinai Peninsula. Egypt recently changed its policy regarding the tunnels and has launched an operation to destroy them. Egyptian military forces destroyed at least 13 such tunnels during Operation Protective Edge and have recently begun to work aggressively to demolish the entire network.

The IDF military operations, together with the Egyptians’ actions, have effectively cut Hamas off from any real possibility of replenishing their rocket arsenal from abroad. Iran has tried to arm Hamas in the past, but with no way to smuggle them into the Gaza Strip, Hamas has turned to rely primarily on its domestic military industry.
