The IDF announced Saturday night that it had eliminated a Hamas terrorist who operated under the cover of an Al Jazeera cameraman and had recently been involved in planning attacks against Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.
According to the military, Ahmed Samir Mohammed Washah, a sniper in Hamas’ military wing, was killed in a precision airstrike in central Gaza alongside two additional Hamas terrorists.
The IDF said Washah spent years working as a cameraman for Al Jazeera while simultaneously serving as a terrorist in Hamas’ military wing. In recent months, he allegedly played an active role in planning and advancing sniper attacks and other terrorist operations against Israeli troops operating in Gaza.
The military also noted that Washah’s brother, Mohammed Samir Mohammed Washah, was a senior Hamas operative involved in the organization’s rocket and weapons production headquarters. According to the IDF, he likewise operated under the guise of an Al Jazeera journalist before being killed in an Israeli strike in April.
The IDF said Ahmed Washah was targeted because of his recent operational activity and the immediate threat he posed to Israeli forces operating in the area.
Israeli forces remain deployed throughout the Gaza Strip and will continue acting against terrorist operatives and other immediate threats in accordance with operational requirements, the military said.
