Israeli security officials believe the likelihood of a renewed escalation with Iran has increased significantly, as the United States continues to expand its military campaign and regional tensions remain high.
According to Israeli media reports, senior officials have told the political leadership they believe Washington could soon decide to intensify its strikes on Iran.
Israel’s security establishment remains on heightened alert following recent Iranian missile launches toward Jordan and is preparing for a range of scenarios, including a broader U.S. offensive, direct Iranian action against Israel, or other developments that could trigger a wider regional conflict.
“We will be ready if the Americans decide to escalate, if Israel becomes involved, or if Iran takes action against us,” a senior Israeli official was quoted as saying.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to convene a limited security Cabinet meeting Monday evening to assess the latest developments.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir also addressed the growing tensions during a visit to Judea and Samaria on Sunday.
“We are closely monitoring developments and maintaining a high level of readiness,” Zamir said. “We are prepared to return to combat immediately and will act with full force against anyone who harms us.”
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command announced late Sunday that American forces had completed a ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iranian targets.
According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks in an effort to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The U.S. military is holding Iran accountable at the commander in chief’s direction. CENTCOM forces remain highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready,” the command said.
President Donald Trump said the campaign is intended to eliminate any possibility of Iran obtaining a nuclear missile capability.
“What we’re doing now is ending any chance that they can have a nuclear missile,” Trump told reporters Sunday, adding that the operation had achieved its objective in just over a week.
Despite the military buildup, Iran indicated that diplomatic efforts are continuing. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran has received proposals from mediating countries aimed at reducing tensions and is reviewing them, while insisting that Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz “is not subject to negotiation.”
On Sunday, Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel would respond forcefully if Iran attacked. “If Iran fires missiles at Israel, we will strike it with great force, without any dependence or conditions,” Katz said.
