Israeli leaders over the weekend celebrated UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s landslide victory and the collapse of the Labour party, led by Jeremy Corbyn, who couldn’t shake accusations of support for Islamic terrorism and anti-Semitism.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated his “friend” Boris Johnson on his “historic victory.”

President Reuven Rivlin stated that “on behalf of the Israeli people, and personally, I wish you great success as you continue to serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.”

“I am confident that under your leadership the important relationship between the two countries will continue to strengthen and that together we will be able to face the challenges of our times on every front,” he stated.

Israel feared that a victory by Labour leader Corbyn would have significantly hindered the relations between the two countries, and especially in the spheres of military intelligence sharing and defense trade.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein stated: “a huge victory for Israel’s friend Boris Johnson in the UK. A glorious defeat to his anti-Semitic rival, Corbyn, and for Israel’s haters.”

Corbyn is expected to step down as the Labour’s leaders and walk away from politics.

“This is very important news for the State of Israel. I congratulate Mr. Johnson and I am sure he will continue to succeed in his position,” he said.

Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog sent a congratulatory greeting to Johnson, saying that his victory is “great news not only for England, but for the entire Jewish people and the battle on anti-Semitism, as well as human rights and the struggle for democracy.”

Three weeks ago, Johnson sent a letter to Herzog stating his deep commitment to combating anti-Semitism. “I express my support for all Jewish communities in the United Kingdom and around the world. The safety of Jewish people is a top priority for the UK government,” Johnson said in the letter.
