American firefighters arrived in Israel to join their Israeli colleagues fighting fires ignited by Hamas’ arson terrorism.
Arriving in the Jewish state under the auspices of the Emergency Volunteer Project, which operates to train and deploy international fire and rescue personnel to Israel in times of crisis, ten American volunteers are combating blazes started by Hamas’ fire kites and explosive balloons launched by Palestinians in Gaza.
“Real solidarity is measured with deeds, and there’s no better way to show such solidarity than fighting shoulder to shoulder against the fires raging on the Gaza border,” announced the US Embassy in Jerusalem.
“Thank you! From the bottom of our hearts!” the embassy concluded.
The US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman went to Sderot on Wednesday to thank the Israel Fire and Rescue Authority and their visiting American counterparts.
Yuval Rotem, Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tweeted “heartwarming to see the work of these American firefighters, here to assist Israeli fire crews in putting out fires sparked by Hamas incendiary devices in southern Israel.”
US rescue personnel have deployed in Israel during previous crises, working side by side with Israeli forces, while Israel has sent emergency personnel and know-how to the US during American disasters.
Over the past 140 days, Hamas’s ecological terrorism has burned approximately 7,400 acres (11.5 square miles) of agricultural lands, destroying nature preserves and natural habitats and causing millions of dollars of damage to Israeli farms.
At least 13 fires sparked by Hamas’ airborne arson weapons scorched Israel’s south on Wednesday.
