US Strikes Iran After Deadly Attack as Region Braces for Escalation

The region is bracing for further escalation as the United States significantly reinforces its military presence across the Middle East.

The United States launched a new wave of airstrikes against Iran late Saturday after two American service members were killed in an Iranian missile and drone attack on U.S. forces in Jordan, marking a sharp escalation in the growing conflict.

According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces struck Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, missile and drone storage sites, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces involved in the July 17 attack.

The strikes, completed at approximately 11:30 p.m. ET on the orders of President Donald Trump, marked the eighth consecutive night of U.S. military action against Iran.

“During the eighth consecutive night of U.S. strikes, CENTCOM forces successfully hit Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites to continue degrading Iranian military capabilities,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

The command added that more than 50,000 U.S. troops remain deployed across the Middle East and are “highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready.”

The latest strikes came after CENTCOM confirmed that two U.S. service members were killed and another remains missing following an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack on American and partner forces in Jordan on July 17.

Four additional service members were evacuated for medical treatment before later returning to duty or being discharged from the hospital. CENTCOM said it would withhold the identities of the fallen until their families had been notified.

Meanwhile, the region is bracing for further escalation as the United States significantly reinforces its military presence across the Middle East.

According to Israeli public broadcaster Kan News, Washington has informed Israel that it is expanding its regional deployment, sending dozens of additional aerial refueling aircraft to support potential future operations against Iran. Some have already arrived at Ovda Air Base in southern Israel after transiting through Qatar, while others are expected in the coming days.

The United States is also deploying additional fighter squadrons to the region, including F-35 and F-16 aircraft. A squadron of F-16s reportedly landed in Jordan over the past day, while additional aircraft are expected to arrive at bases throughout the Middle East, including in Israel, as logistical preparations are completed.

The military buildup comes amid growing expectations that Washington is preparing for a prolonged campaign should hostilities with Iran continue to intensify.

The U.S. State Department also issued a worldwide security alert, advising Americans overseas to exercise increased caution as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.

Officials warned of the potential for further escalation, possible travel disruptions caused by flight cancellations and airspace closures, and the risk that Iran-backed groups could target U.S. interests, diplomatic facilities, or American citizens abroad.
