Dead IDF soldiers are apparently a source of amusement to Gazan soccer fans, who are using their photos to represent their teams.

Palestinians in Gaza have chosen an odd and twisted way to encourage soccer fans to attend a championship game between two local teams – by using the photos of two IDF soldiers killed by terrorists during Operation Protective Edge.

In a poster, seen also on social media, the photos of Oron Shaul and Lieutenant  Hadar Goldin, two casualties of last summer’s war with Hamas, are used to represent the teams from these towns. Below the photos is the caption: “The two pillars of the kidnapped soldiers are at the end of the Gaza Strip Cup.”

Shaul died in battle together with another six Golani soldiers in Shajaiya when their armored personnel carrier was hit by an anti-tank rocket. His body was never recovered and is assumed to be held by Hamas.

Goldin was abducted by Hamas and killed during a battle with Hamas terrorists in Shajaiya. Two other IDF soldiers also died in the incident.

Hamas refuses to return the bodies. Israel secretly, and apparently unsuccessfully, attempted to negotiate the return of the bodies as part of a long-term cease fire with the terror organization’ reports indicate.
