Israeli communities continue to reject Breaking the Silence’s anti-IDF propaganda.
An event featuring Breaking the Silence, an extreme left-wing organization that promotes criticism of the IDF, was canceled at Kibbutz Neve Ur in northern Israel Monday due to pressure from residents.
The decision follows a wave of similar cancellations of events featuring the controversial group in other Israeli communities.
All of the canceled Breaking the Silence events were scheduled to be held in public buildings. Faced with fierce resistance from residents, some of the meetings were forced to move to private homes or rented auditoriums.
The anti-Israel organization Breaking the Silence is comprised of former IDF members who served since the start of the Second Intifada and claim “to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories.”
They are financed by foreign bodies and countries, including an organization operating within the Palestinian Authority-administered territories.
While claiming that their goals are to “raise awareness” about the “reality” of serving in the so-called “occupied territories” and to “create a discussion about the cost of military control over a civilian population,” the NGO refuses to post the names of the soldiers who testify.
The organization also refused to pass along their accounts to the IDF’s Military Advocate General’s Corps for investigation, despite repeated requests by senior IDF officials. Instead, Breaking the Silence members routinely go abroad to spread their allegations instead of taking their complaints directly to the IDF or civilian courts.
